I often joke saying my mistakes are my main form of entertainment. And that is probably truer than it should be.
Sometimes the very thought might provide amusement, groans, and sometimes they are they to have them CSI’d from one aspect or another.
Of course I don’t think about all of them at the same time. There may even be some I have forgotten.
Some are suitable to be pulled out for entertaining others and some are dark enough, well…
It’s a funny thing that I don’t think of my accomplishments in the same way, or very often for that matter. I guess that’s because self-congratulation is not viewed favourably and somehow does not have the ‘ouch’ factor that humour frequently requires.
I find quotes about mistakes and failures to be a little smug partly because I am not sure they are 100% true. But they do hold some truth
“A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable, but more useful than a life spent doing nothing.” George Bernard Shaw
The above about blaming others I lifted from a blog I follow, middleme.net, and it struck a chord.
Okay I must take back my first statement, it isn’t my main form of entertainment but when I think on things, the silly things I do chuckle.
I read something recently that regret is a wasted emotion and we should avoid it. My question is can we? should we?
What do you think about such things?
So here at North of 43 I am left wondering.
I made a mistake this morning so I read these ruminations with more than casual interest.
Was there regret? No. Was it a miscalculation? Almost certainly. Was it public? Very, for a short time, that post I put up and very few people saw

Ha when I started reading this I thought you were going for that old line ‘I made a mistake once’

You know all the mistakes that I make so I’m not going to list them here. But I certainly think regret is a waste of time and energy. As you know I learned that from that elderly lady in Sussex. She said never apologise, never regret. I plan never to regret anything.

Hi Matt. I live north of the 43rd latitude in southern Ontario. Judith my partner in this blog lives almost the same below the equator in New Zealand.

I think regret is very difficult to avoid. Maybe some are better at avoiding it than others. I think it ‘can’ serve a purpose in helping us redirect and avoid future mistakes. If we are open to the lessons they carry.

I definitely believe regret is a wasted emotion.
Having said that…when I win the lottery I might regret not having much time to spend it.

Haha that would be a worthwhile regret

This is timely as once again this morning I have mused over some regrets of years ago. The sad thing is…we can’t go back and change them so I’m working hard on letting them go. Not easy! Thanks

My friend used to call me an unconscious comedian and my mistakes were a great source of fun to her. So it is to my family.
On regrets..they are never forgotten and they rise often to the surface when you least expect them. I think analysing them is better.
