David Crosby and Rolling Stone

According to Wikipedia, David Van Cortlandt Crosby (born August 14, 1941) is an American singer-songwriter and musician. In addition to his solo career, he was a founding member of both the Byrds and Crosby, Stills & Nash.

Actually his career encompasses much more, and I must confess I figured this guy of 81 years had probably retired long ago, or was on the other side of the green.

So I was a little surprised to come across a news piece announcing a new job.

Crosby is Rolling Stone’s official advice columnist. Has been for sometime.

Sort of an Ann Landers with a twist.

So why does this interest me?

Well, for one thing, he bucks the you’re old so retire already.

For another, he gets to do what so many of us elders dream of – say whatever you damn well feel like. And get paid for it.

I can’t say I was ever a big fan as his life-style was a little outside my comfort level in my youth. Lots of children by many women, including being sperm donor for Melissa Etheridge’s 2 children. Criminal activity, heavy drugs yada yada.

I’m not judging here, and I really never connected with lots of great musicians who lived sex, drugs, and rock and roll, including my all time favourites, the Eagles.

It was only in my forties I relaxed. And I do so love music.

So now I cheer him on! Go ahead you grumpy curmudgeon (I don’t know if he is actually what I just said, but having read some of his answers I suspect this to be the case.)

Why?

Because I think the world has gone Politically Correct crazy. The pendulum has swung too far.

Woke concepts creeping into science? Gender activists push to stop anthropologists from marking human remains as ‘male’ or ‘female

The article says not just refuse to state gender but also race. And you know why the gender thing? Well, you just have to read the article to know.

So Mr. Crosby, I am sure you will rankle a few, irritate, and disagree. But you go right ahead. You might be the last person on earth that expresses Free Speech!

Oh my, I think that is enough from North of 43!

One is about 43 degrees latitude N. and longitude 80 W, The other almost equidistant south latitude and longitude 174 E. Two women, two minds, different personalities and experiences, choosing a life of meaning, continual growth and learning, at the same time negating ageist opinions of exactly what ‘an old lady’ should be.

  1. Deep thoughts Chris as always. I’ve never known anything about Crosby except that he was part of Crosby, Stills & Nash. If I really wanted to know more about him I could go onto the site. But I think I will leave it there.
