There’s a bluebird on my shoulder…that song from a Disney movie of my youth (60ish years ago) springs to mind, more often than I care to admit. A happy song that I have warbled throughout the years whenever I wanted spontaneous happiness.
I was counting my blessings this morning when there was quite a ruckus outside my bedroom window. Squacks and bangs. And there for the first time in my life was a large Bluebird actually pecking against the window as if demanding my attention. Less than six feet away. It seemed to have a message it was delivering with some urgency.
Once it had my attention and we made eye contact it yammered away appearing to think I understood. It seemed to go on for a long time but was probably seconds. It sat quietly, hopped around and left.
But the whole thing felt quite intimate. And so I thought I would see what it could mean.

Sonomabirding.com had a wealth of information”
The bluebird is a symbol of hope, love, and renewal and is also a part of many Native American legends. It symbolizes the essence of life and beauty. Dreaming of bluebirds often represents happiness, joy, fulfillment, hope, prosperity, and good luck. A bluebird flying around the house is a sign that someone will bring news of a promotion or raise at work.
The bluebirds’ most significant symbolism is associated with their wings’ color; blue is symbolic of peace and contentment, and so are these birds. According to the Mystics, blue was the color of innocence, honesty, and purity.
Bluebirds are also symbolic of joy and happiness; their spirits firmly believe in spreading joy everywhere they go. Because the bluebirds have a melodious voice, they’re symbolic of music and passion. They have a positive spirit and keep the negative energies at bay.
Even in the harshest climates, when they have a scarcity of food, these birds still manage to sing cheerfully. It is a sign that you should never lose faith, even in your darkest hours. You must hold on to the belief that in the end, it will all be alright.
What meant the most? Never lose faith even in your darkest hours. You must hold on to the belief that in the end it will all be alright.
In Christianity, the bluebirds have a sacred symbolism. They’re considered to be angels in disguise, flying down the Earth as messengers from the world of the Gods. It is believed that our guardian angels send down these birds in order to deliver important messages to us.

I have never seen one in Scandinavia. I Love their faces. I am called to feed a wild pheasant every morning however.

Hey Chris,
That’s a Blue Jay, not a Bluebird 😉

I know Cathie and at the time confused the terminology. A blue jay it was and made me smile. I just couldn’t think of a song about a blue jay!

I always thought ‘bluejay’ and ‘bluebird’ were the same bird. They aren’t. Though I think both are beautiful. Like you, I hear ‘bluebird’ and that song just starts singing out of me like I have no control!
