Are Wednesdays Action Days?

**Disclaimer – this probably only applies to Monday-Friday work weeks or those of a work-week mind.

I guess I should explain ’action days’, according to my perception:

Mondays are action days in theory, you gear up ready to attack the week. Kick it off as it were. (note to self, research ’kick it off’ later). BTW Mondays have always been my favourite day of the week. Armed with goals and thoughts so pure I go forward with great optimism. Fridays, on the other hand, were days of reckoning – what did I not achieve.

Tuesdays are less about action, more of a momentum day carried on after Monday.

Thursdays are about momentum but winding down to week’s end.

Fridays can be a final wind down kind of day or a huge kick off day if you have not met your goals or necessary production for the week.

Saturdays you might initially classify as non-action days but they are very often a different kind action days – you know household cleaning, chores, shopping.

Sundays needless to say are my actual traditional Day of Rest.

But what about Wednesdays, harshly labeled Hump Day? Is it an action day for you? Do you have to make an extra push to get into the last half of the traditional work week? Grit your teeth, grunt, and go?

It may seem a little strange that I have been retired more than a decade but my week is still structured somewhat the same. Except I don’t do household chores on Saturday. Actually there are lots of day I don’t do household chores but that is for another day.

But Wednesdays have been and remain a day to assess. Am I reaching my goals for the week? I have come to the conclusion I am a better assessor than a doer. For me it is less an action day than a day to sigh, find a moment of quiet and gently go into the last of the week.

So today I looked at my journal a year ago and see that I am progressing toward my goals well. I have a better plan in place and am content with that plan.

I looked back at previous posts to see what interested me in the first few days of February and had a chuckle or two.

What a Difference a Day Makes 2012 – I swear this is accurate as unbelievable as it seems.

A Texas Low and The Edmund Fitzgerald 2014 – A wave of warm memories smacking just a bit of the 70’s and Gordon Lightfoot.

The Wall 2017 – No, not THAT one. But one of memories, history, my past

Adrienne, That Pain, and Yoga 2018 – A solution to an irritating nagging pain

Everybody Needs a Hobby 2019 – my sanity saving activity.

Whether this be a day of action, rest, or contemplation, may you find some peace, joy, or comfort.

  1. I am trying to get into the mode of making it an action day today but the sun is feeling so good as comes through my window and I sit on the couch. LOL!
I work overnight tonight so taking it easy now.

  2. Another good thought-provoking post Chris. Thanks I read it all through including going into all the links and the one that jumped out to me was hobbies. Hobbies you say? Who has time for hobbies? Thinking about it I suggest that my hobby would be car driving as I seem to spend a lot of time rushing from one place to the next. Could that be a hobby?

  3. As usual, you’d prodded me into mental action! Retired, living on my own, no car so not very mobile, more or less isolated since Covid started (not a litany of dismay, rather one of “how blessed I am!) I find my days run into one another with little regular distinction as it was when I was working and had a family to care for. My action days seem to be governed more by the weather (I get going when the sun shines, hibernate when the weather is bad) and probably my hormones (not sure which ones, but there are days when I’m full of beans, others when I just want to curl up with a book). Maybe it’s the moon? Anyway, I feel a blog post coming on …

    1. I figure somewhere in my gene pool are bears that hibernate. My friends think I am crazy as they go out and about but I tell you I feel The Call of The Wild and it says – eat eat eat, hibernate hibernate

  4. Well….I can’t say I applied any regular rules of action on any day. I guess my action days have always depended on others. My job requires me to interview people so …. that’s how that is driven. At home….action is driven by motivation. And that, my dear friend, is hit and miss. 😉
