The Second First Five Word Friday

GROCERIES, SNOW,=DELAYED A DAY

Ok, first things first, JB thought it would be fun to start a Five Word Friday Challenge. And so, yesterday, her Friday was the first one. The Challenge takes place on the first Friday of each month.

Now here at about 80W longitude and north of 43 Friday is today. Time travel of a sort.

GROCERIES, SNOW,=DELAYED A DAY

Yesterday, for the first time I decided to try Grocery delivery – to save time, effort (lugging groceries at 74 has become what I call painful but in fact is just a nuisance), and an experiment (you know I love experiments) to see if it affects non-necessary shopping (friends insist it does), and treat myself to a bit of luxury. JB has been doing this for a few months and loves it.

So I went on-line, ordered, put in credit card info, chose an available delivery time between 5 and 6 last evening. Yippee!

Got a call at 6:15 saying could not deliver then (I was happy with that because it had begun to snow heavily and I really did not want someone to have to be on the road just for delivery), but they would deliver this morning between 10-11.

I am not unhappy with this as sometimes things happen and unless there is a problem with the actual items I ordered, I can see this becoming routine!

OH and I am also happy that it gave me my first second Five Word Friday!

GROCERIES, SNOW,=DELAYED A DAY

Sun, snow, summer, winter, here at north of 43 I wish you all a lovely day!

One is about 43 degrees latitude N. and longitude 80 W, The other almost equidistant south latitude and longitude 174 E. Two women, two minds, different personalities and experiences, choosing a life of meaning, continual growth and learning, at the same time negating ageist opinions of exactly what ‘an old lady’ should be.

  1. I hope your order did arrive even if it was a day late. I rarely now go to the supermarket, choosing delivery instead. And yes, I really think it saves money.. I no longer say, oh I could have that or that! Nice pot

      1. Great customer service. I have just sent my order for delivery on Monday. Our Minister for Covid – reminds me of John Cleese’s Minister for Funny Walks – told everybody to stock up in case they get omicron and have to self-isolate. I can imagine the mayhem at the supermarkets now.

      2. That’s funny because our government told people not to stock up so there would not be a raid on supplies – but people did anyway

  2. I LOVED sending in my grocery list, and just going later to pick it up curbside. That was the only way to do it when the pandemic was new. Those shoppers NEVER got distracted by the cookie and cracker aisle…NEVER tossed in a tub of ice cream just on a whim. I saved a fortune!! Now, forced to mask up and do my own shopping, the price continues to rise. This week, for the first time, I tried out one of those meal services, “Hello Fresh.” The portions are for two people, so I have some leftovers tonight, but everything was fresh and good. They had a good promo for new customers, which cut the price in half. I don’t think I’ll continue it, because it’s not cheap, and it’s not a perfect solution for me…but oh, my, tonight I prepared a fresh salad with romaine, green onion, tomato and cucumber, with feta, hummus, sour cream, and seasoned pork patties. The salad alone was worth the cost of the whole meal to me, as it’s impossible to get fresh vegetables like that up here this time of year. I hope your groceries arrive safely after the snow!

    1. I tried it too Cindy and loved it – upscale restaurant quality – a real teat but like you found it too pensive to do all the time – but I continue to use the recipe cards that came with it.
