I took to looking at the past..

Well, at some of the past. Past posts that is. My Bridgesburning blog goes back eleven years now and it occurred to me there might be some wisdom to behold there. Might being the operative word.

I spent several hours reading through all the January posts and did not finish. I will rethink that approach but there were a few things that resonated with me.

So:

1-11 ’More tears than laughter. A little broken for sure, but surviving.’ Sometimes I think that is all we can ask for. CG

1-22 ’ Once you step outside yourself, painful as that is, you find clarity. But you must be very brave to take that first step.’ CG

1-22 ’When you are physically, spiritually, emotionally drained, just stop. Breathe. Be very quiet. Batteries recharge best when plugged in and at rest.’ CG

1-11 ’ Some days you win, some days you lose, some days it rains.’ FIELD OF DREAMS

1-11 ’An angry man can only get so far until he reconciles the way he thinks things ought to be with the way things are.’ * DON HENLEY. **I think this says everything about why there is so much anger in the world today.

1-11 ‘Anger, I believe comes from fear. And fear I can understand. But anger also comes from carrying someone else’s cross and giving them power over you. You don’t have to take back your power – it was always yours to use. ‘ CG

1-12 ‘I believe that political correctness can be a form of linguistic fascism, and it sends shivers down the spine of my generation who went to war against fascism.’ P.D. James

1-12 ’Political correctness is in my view, a sophisticated form of censorship, that affects all of us, and creeps unasked into our lives. Judith Baxter (JB)

AND JUST ONE MORE –

1-12 ‘The measurement of success is the FEELING, not the measurement.

It’s Saturday, January 22nd, 2022 here at 43N Lat and 80W Long. Have a lovely day/night all.

One is about 43 degrees latitude N. and longitude 80 W, The other almost equidistant south latitude and longitude 174 E. Two women, two minds, different personalities and experiences, choosing a life of meaning, continual growth and learning, at the same time negating ageist opinions of exactly what ‘an old lady’ should be.

  1. Another great post Chris. It is very interesting to read back on our post score so many years ago. Where were we, what were we thinking and what will be doing? I have re-blogged this on growing younger

  2. Hi Chris, I don’t agree with either or your quotes with regard to “Political Correctness” I believe ‘political correctness” is a term coined by the right wing who want to maintain the status quo. They don’t understand what some of us are trying to do when we try to correct ‘old’ ways of saying things that either intentionally or unintentionally marginalised groups of people. It is not politically correct to use the N word, it is not politically correct to say a woman’s place is in the kitchen or to ‘catcall’ a woman walking down the street…..I can think of many more examples and I am surprised and disappointed that both those people you quoted were women. All the best Cathie
