Penny Walking

I’ve mentioned before that my relationship with G1 & G2 is particularly precious, but I don’t think I have told you about the books I wrote for them.

Not for general publication, (that would be just too brutal), but something ‘just between us.

Anyway, when G1 was 4 I wrote a wee book called Caleb’s Adventures with Grandma.

He is now 18. So I am having it bound into a Real Book. I was his first ’Best Friend’, though I am not sure he knew that. He sure was mine.

Following that I am now writing a book for this guy:

I was in his life on a daily basis from the age of 3 until the age of 7. It was an exciting time and one of our adventures was Penny Walkng.

So I don’t have a cover for this book but when it is done I will let you see it.

Penny Walking is a pretty important thing to do. In a busy house with 3 cats, one dog, a busy Mom and a busy Dad it is a time to give voice to who you are.

Not the Second Son, or the Second Child, but a First Citizen of The World whose very existence is Number One, with who else but Grandma!

It’s minus 20C here at north of 43 and big snow storm expected in a couple of day, so I went off to shop for some necessities which turned out to be cookies, candles, hand lotion, oh and some hair colour (in case it turns into a much longer storm.

Stay warm, or cool if you are JB’s way (who by the way might be experiencing some tsunami on her north island from Tonga), and above all stay safe.

One is about 43 degrees latitude N. and longitude 80 W, The other almost equidistant south latitude and longitude 174 E. Two women, two minds, different personalities and experiences, choosing a life of meaning, continual growth and learning, at the same time negating ageist opinions of exactly what ‘an old lady’ should be.

  1. Grandsons are so special. Our G1 spent every summer with us from age 10 to 15. Such fond memories. We didn´t see as much of G2 but we are also close. He helped me do research for one of my books. They are all grown up now but we are still good friends.

  2. Isn’t the grand… relationship really grand? Grandparents can play a very important role in the life of their grandchildren, and vice-versa. I hope covid isn’t affecting your relationships too much.

  3. Lovely post Chris. The relationship between grandsons and grandmas is so very important. You and I have discussed this at length the relationships we have with our grandsons. Still close, although yours are growing up and mine have grown up.

      1. Do you keep adding to that file? I have something similar but keep forgetting about it. I think I will follow you and put a file of that title on my desktop. Thanks!

  4. What a great idea. My grandchildren and I used to write stories together and the turn our characters into puppets. But now I wish I had turned all that into a book. I suppose there’s still time. But one is in middle school and the other will be there next year. Grandma is special but I don’t hold the same rock star quality I did when they were little. Yes, they love Grandma. But, I do miss those squeals of delight when I’d show up at their door when they were little. What precious moments . Lol
